CRACK core loop: shifts, cracks, and tools
How a CRACK shift works: crack the egg, earn money, upgrade tools, and open more of the lab. No ending spoilers.
The loop
The October 27 launch post lists the structure in three bullets: 1–4 player online co-op, shift-based progression where every shift gets you deeper into the egg, and tool upgrades that let you crack faster. The October 23 post says the economy in one line: every crack earns money, and money buys a better way to crack.
The store’s about text adds the lab around that loop. You unlock hidden rooms and upgrade tools throughout the facility. The egg reacts to you. You are told to listen closely, find out what is inside, and treat whatever happens after that as above your pay grade. Endings and the contents of the egg are on endings spoilers.
Tools Rafoli has named
The October 23 post, written before launch, says you start cracking the shell with basic tools and end up running a demolition operation with friends, “leveraging automated robots, explosives, and scaffolding climbing up the egg.” It also says golf carts and explosives are in the launch version because commenters asked for them while the game was built in public.
Later posts name systems without a shopping list:
- Golf carts can be upgraded from anywhere as of v1.0.35, not only when parked in a bay.
- Shops exist. In Chill Mode, buying from them no longer requires solving a puzzle.
- Bots can break down. Chill Mode stops that.
- Pipes can burst and scaffolds can break. Chill Mode turns those events off.
- Calcite veins on the egg failed to appear on some AMD and Intel GPUs; 1.0.35 and 1.0.43 both mention fixes.
The sleep aid fee, cut from $20 to $5 in 1.0.43, is in the patch notes. The $7.99 store price is on the price guide. Walkthrough prices for tools and Workbots are on progression priority.
The shift clock
Patch 1.0.43 is the clearest public description of the clock. The default game has a bedtime, a day clock, an end-of-day summary, and a sleep aid fee. Dream bonuses could be lost if you closed the game before that summary; 1.0.43 says that loss is fixed. Failing an event such as a productivity audit has a penalty in the normal rules, because Chill Mode is defined as removing that penalty. Passing out in the break room could stop the day from starting; 1.0.35 says that case is fixed.
Chill Mode’s full exception list is on modes and controls. The default shift still has the bedtime and the events that mode turns down.
Co-op
The launch posts tell you to bring friends and call them coworkers. Online co-op is 1–4 players. Snake turns were fixed for multiplayer in 1.0.35, and hosting or joining gives up after 30 seconds if Steam is unreachable. Session notes are on co-op.
Where to go next
Start with the beginner guide for the premise, then progression priority for Work Order order, then the launch week summary for Rafoli’s own wording. Scaffolding and agitation are on scaffolding and reactions. Notes through 1.0.43 are in patch notes.
