CRACK beginner guide: your first shift

What to expect on your first CRACK shift: the egg, the lab, co-op, and which guides to read before you clock in.

The job

Rafoli’s store text is blunt. There is a very large egg in a laboratory. Your job is to crack it open, and the page tells you not to ask why. CRACK is a 1–4 player co-op incremental adventure. You work shift after shift, peel the egg layer by layer, and upgrade tools so the next crack goes further. The core loop follows that cycle through the launch posts.

The October 23, 2026 Steam post says the lab has hidden doors, locked areas, multiple endings, 40 achievements (five of them hidden), and a speedrun leaderboard. It also says the real questions are who brought you here and what is inside the egg. Those answers are on endings spoilers. Public achievement names are on achievements.

If you only have a few minutes, read this page, then progression priority for Work Order order, then the patch notes for what 1.0.43 added. Launch-week Steam pitfalls are in player tips.

Before you buy

  • When it launched. Full release on Steam was October 26, 2026, at 9:30 AM PT (5:30 PM CET), according to Rafoli’s October 23 post. Details are on release and platforms.
  • What it costs. The October 28, 2026 US price, including the launch-week discount, is on the price guide. Regional prices differ.
  • Whether your PC can run it. Windows, macOS, and Linux each have a minimum and a recommended spec on Steam, and every row lists 3 GB of storage. See system requirements.

The same store page lists single-player, online co-op, full controller support, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing, and Steam Achievements. English is the language with full audio. The rest of the language list is on the platforms page.

How a shift starts

The October 23 post puts the loop in one line: every crack earns money, and money buys a better way to crack. You start on the shell with basic tools. Later, the same post says, you and your friends run a demolition operation with automated robots, explosives, and scaffolding climbing the egg. Golf carts and explosives are in the launch version because players asked for them during development.

Work Order order and the dollar figures from walkthroughs are on progression priority. When a patch names a system, the patch notes quote it: a sleep aid fee, bedtime, shops, pipe puzzles, bots, calcite on the egg, and golf carts.

Solo play

The store lists Single-player and Online Co-op. The launch post says you can play solo or with up to three friends, four people on one egg. Version 1.0.43, posted October 27, added Offline Mode so solo play does not need a connection, and in that mode the pause menu pauses. Read co-op before you invite anyone, and modes and controls for Chill Mode.
